Consultation on conversion to an Alternative Provision Academy

The Transition Board of The Cambridge Learning Base of The County School recently passed a resolution to apply for conversion to a sponsored Alternative Provision (AP) Academy. These are a new type of school with more freedoms than local authority maintained units.

The DfE state that:

“Academy status will give education professionals working in AP greater scope to innovate and raise standards for the pupils in their Pupil Referral Units (PRUs), although remaining clearly accountable for the outcomes they deliver. AP Academies will enjoy a number of benefits over maintained PRUs, which include:

  • Freedom from local authority control
  • Greater control of their budget
  • The ability to set their own pay and conditions for staff
  • The ability to change the lengths of terms and school days to benefit pupils
  • Freedom to develop new types of support to pupils

The Transition Board and TBAP Multi-Academy Trust are consulting you as stakeholders as part of the consultation process.

  • There will be an open meeting at The Cambridge Learning Base on Tuesday 23rd June 2015 at 3.30 pm. At that meeting the TBAP Multi-Academy Trust will be introduced and what Academy status will mean for the Cambridge Learning Base will be discussed. Please let us know if you would like to attend the open meeting on 23rd June, as it is helpful for us to know numbers. E mail: jane.heath@cambridgeshire.gov.uk

Questions can be emailed to the Executive Headteacher on head@tbap.org.uk
