This is very important because our stated aim is to try to ensure that as many children and young people as possible who come to Aspire Academy are able to return or gain a place in a mainstream school/academy and we want to make it as easy as possible for them to transfer or re-integrate back into mainstream schools/academies.
We operate a 38 week Academy year, divided presently into three terms. There are 5 periods each day with a morning break and lunch.
The Academy is divided into Primary and Secondary Units which largely operate separately, although some staff work across both units. Within each unit, there is some division into Key Stage provision and within this there will be mixed aged teaching. For most pupils there are some regular off site activities, such as outdoor pursuits, built into the Academy day.
Older mostly Key Stage 4 students may have up to 60% of their timetable taking place off site locally in order to access vocational education courses of their choice such as Construction, Hair & Beauty, Mechanics, etc. These courses take place on the premises of approved providers, who meet high standards for Safeguarding and Health & Safety and transport to those off-site providers is provided or organised by the Academy.
Each pupil’s timetable and provision will be personalised to meet their identified needs and this may mean that the nature and pattern of this changes from time to time. Pupils, parents/carers and commissioners will be consistently involved in discussions about timetables and provision as well as progress and achievements.
Some pupils may have initial part-time timetables or phased timetables of provision, depending on their starting points and particular circumstances. However, our aim always is that pupils will end up attending provision full-time for 25 hours a week, 38 weeks of the academic year.
