Prior to retiring from a full time, permanent role in August 2017, Angela Barry was the founding CEO of a Multi-Academy Trust working within South East London and Kent. She has been part of the teaching profession for 34 years; twenty-two of which have been as either a Head Teacher or as an executive leader, in a wide variety of diverse schools. Between 2011 and 2017, Angela led a multi-academy trust of four primary schools with a free school in pre-opening. Supporting colleagues to ensure that all pupils have access to high quality provision is a huge personal driver. Through her work as a Local Leader of Education (LLE) (2008), and subsequently as a National Leader of Education (NLE) (2011), Angela aspired to demonstrate the ability to work sensitively and collaboratively with a range of partners in order to improve the life chances for the pupils within those schools.
During her career, Angela has been an appointed Local Authority (LA) governor, a staff governor, an ex-officio Trustee as well as being a Board’s Chair of Trustees within a Special School Trust in Kent. She is also very proud to be a Member of the Stour Academy Trust in a voluntary capacity in order to contribute to this growing trust which serves a wide geographical area across three, geographical hubs. One of the main elements of effective governance stems from being able to support and challenge in appropriate measure, whilst always keeping children at the heart of a school’s work.
