Following this, she qualified as a primary teacher where she spent six years as SENCO, gaining experience of both KS1 and KS2. She was offered a position at a secondary school in Warrington, leading their designated provision for learners with additional cognition & learning and SEMH needs and went on to become SENCO. Leading the SEMH provision gave Jenny the realisation that she very much enjoyed working with learners needing additional support with their behaviour and mental health and this led her to join the senior leadership team at New Horizons School where she ultimately became deputy head teacher (Director of Learning). During this time, she provided strategic leadership for behaviour and safety, attendance, outcomes & assessment and Teaching & Learning. She was also head of school for a provision for vulnerable learners needing additional support with their mental health; a provision that OfSTED called ‘exceptional’.

Since March 2018, Jenny has held the role of Head of TBAP TSA. Her vision is that the TSA develops into the foremost provider of AP related CPD and associated support. She is passionate about developing strong working partnerships with other provisions (including mainstream partners) in order that innovative practice can be shared and disseminated. With 11 AP Academies as strategic partners and over 20 associate partners, Jenny oversees the development of TBAP TSA ensuring that it provides quality CPD and system leadership of the highest calibre and ensures innovative and compassionate practice runs throughout. Jenny is an SLE, PiXL Associate and NLP Master practitioner. She delivers training and keynotes, and most recently spoke at the SSAT national conference about AP.

Jenny enjoys researching and blogging about trauma informed approaches and learner wellbeing. She fundamentally believes that if the UK education system prized wellbeing as highly as exam results then outcomes would naturally rise and would stem the rise in young people with stress and anxiety related mental health conditions. One of Jenny’s favourite parts of the role is supporting staff to develop and providing advice, mentoring and support to help them find the right career path.
